Share a Lighthouse or test report as a link

Lighthouse and pytest-html both save a report as one HTML file. Upload it and send a developer, client or manager a link that opens the full interactive report in any browser.

A Lighthouse audit or a test run often needs to reach someone who was not at your desk: a client asking why the site is slow, a developer who has to fix the failing tests, a manager who wants proof the score went up. Both tools can save the report as a single HTML file. Sent as an attachment, that file often arrives as a download or as raw code on a phone. Why HTML files don’t open from email explains the reasons. A hosted link avoids all of it.

Save a Lighthouse report as HTML

  • ✓Chrome DevTools: open the Lighthouse panel and run the audit. In the report, open the ⋮ menu at the top right and choose Save as HTML.
  • ✓Command line: npx lighthouse https://example.com --output html --output-path ./report.html
  • ✓The file contains the scores, every audit and the screenshots, with the scripts and styles built in. It needs nothing else to open.

Save a pytest report as one file

With the pytest-html plugin installed, run pytest --html=report.html --self-contained-html. Without --self-contained-html the report keeps its stylesheet in a separate assets folder, and a single uploaded file loses its styling. Making an HTML file self-contained covers the general case for other report tools.

Report tools that write a whole folder, such as coverage.py’s htmlcov directory, produce many linked pages. Those need a host that serves a folder, not a single-file link.

Upload it and send the link

Drag the .html file onto the FileShare Pro dashboard and copy the link. The report is served as a web page, so Lighthouse’s expandable audits and pytest-html’s result filters work as they do locally.

Viewers need no account and nothing to install. Shared pages carry a noindex tag, so an audit of an unreleased site does not appear in search results. On Pro you can add a password: password-protecting an HTML page.

Keep one link for the latest run

After a fix, run the audit again and upload the new report over the old one. The link stays the same, so a client can bookmark it and always see the latest result. The previous report is kept in version history. Updating a shared link without changing it has the details.

To upload from a script or a CI job instead of the dashboard, the FileShare Pro API and CLI accept the same file.

Discuss the findings on the page

Turn on comments and readers can leave a note on the report after typing a name: which audit they will fix, which test is flaky, a question about a score. The view count shows whether the person you sent it to has opened it.

Frequently asked

How do I share a Lighthouse report with someone?

Save the report as HTML from the DevTools ⋮ menu or with --output html on the command line, upload the file to a host that serves it as a web page, and send the link.

Does the shared Lighthouse report stay interactive?

Yes. The saved file includes its own scripts, so expanding audits and viewing screenshots work once it is hosted.

Why does my pytest-html report have no styling after I upload it?

By default pytest-html writes the stylesheet to a separate assets folder. Run pytest with --self-contained-html to put everything in one file.

Can I update the report without sending a new link?

Yes. Upload the new report over the old one. The link stays the same and the previous version is kept in history.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan hosts up to 50 files of up to 100 MB each, with view counts and comments included. Password-protected links are on Pro.
