How to share a Gemini canvas with someone outside Gemini
Gemini’s own share link opens on gemini.google.com only and has no comments. Here is how to export the canvas code and send a link that opens anywhere.
Gemini can build a working page in Canvas: a calculator, a quiz, a landing page, a small dashboard. When it is done, there are two ways to show it to someone. Gemini’s own share link, or the code, hosted somewhere else. Which one fits depends on who is opening it and what you want back from them.
Option 1: Gemini’s own share link
In the canvas, use Share and export, then Copy link. Anyone with the link can open the app and use it. Google’s documentation says they can also view and edit the data associated with it, meaning the app’s state, not its code.
The limits, per Google’s documentation as of September 2026: the link opens on gemini.google.com only, not in the Gemini mobile app, and it is not available to under-18 accounts. There is no commenting, no password and no custom domain. Whether the link follows your later edits is not documented.
That is enough for showing a finished app to a colleague on a laptop. It is not enough when the person is on a phone, outside Google’s ecosystem, or supposed to tell you what to change.
Option 2: export the code and host it
In the canvas, use Share and export, then Copy code. Paste it into a plain text editor and save it as index.html. On a Mac, TextEdit needs Format → Make Plain Text first, or it saves rich text that browsers will not render.
If the canvas is spread over several files, or calls Gemini while it runs, ask first: “Rewrite this as a single self-contained HTML file with the CSS and JavaScript inline and no API calls.” A page that depends on the AI at runtime will not work as a static file.
On FileShare Pro, drag the file in and copy the link. The page opens in any browser on any device over HTTPS, and the person you send it to does not need a Google account or a FileShare Pro account to view it.
Collect feedback on the page
Turn on comments and anyone with the link can leave a note pinned to the button or paragraph they mean, after typing a name. They can also suggest a text edit, which you approve or reject.
When Gemini gives you a revised version, upload it over the old one. The link stays the same, so everyone who already has it sees the new version and the comment thread stays attached. Updating a shared link without changing it walks through it.
Keep it private
Shared pages are sent with a noindex tag, so search engines do not list them. You can turn a link off at any time or set it to expire on a date, and Pro adds a password. Sharing a preview without Google finding it covers the details.
If the hosted page does not work
A page that worked inside Gemini can break once hosted if it expected a server, a database or a secret API key. The symptoms and fixes are in AI page works in chat but breaks when hosted.
